JEA’s Kendra Cash shares how her team leverages ClearPoint Strategy to align departments and improve reporting.
In our recent customer interview webinar, ClearPoint Strategy co-founder Ted Jackson sat down with Kendra Cash, Enterprise Strategy Specialist at JEA, to explore how her team uses ClearPoint to align departments, improve reporting, and drive strategic execution across a 2,200-employee organization. Here’s a recap of their insightful conversation.
Building a Strategic Framework That Cascades
JEA structures their strategy around focus areas, which act as top-level drivers for strategic objectives. Each objective is tied to:
- Initiatives
- KPIs
- Tasks and milestones
This top-down structure ensures that every project and performance measure directly supports organizational priorities. As Kendra explained, "Our focus areas are the drivers, and we cascade from there. It creates a structure our chiefs can easily align to."
ClearPoint’s scorecard tree is key to visualizing this structure. It enables users to see how strategy cascades from enterprise goals to departmental tasks—improving visibility and reinforcing alignment at every level.

Embedding Power BI With Purpose
JEA uses Power BI to house operational data, which they embed live into ClearPoint. This hybrid setup allows:
- Real-time updates for dashboards
- ClearPoint as the “strategy hub” for strategic metrics and initiatives
“Our day-to-day metrics live in internal systems, but anything related to our strategy lives in ClearPoint,” said Kendra. “It keeps things clean and eliminates confusion.”
Quarterly Reporting, Simplified
Each quarter, JEA produces comprehensive strategy reports using ClearPoint’s automated exports. These reports include:
- Qualitative and quantitative metrics
- Initiative progress
- Performance visualizations like pie charts
- Tags to segment and filter reports by theme
Reports are tailored for executive consumption, with “more visuals and fewer tables” to tell the story quickly. The reports are also archived and distributed automatically to key stakeholders—no more hunting down spreadsheets.
Collaboration Without Silos
One of the biggest benefits of using ClearPoint for JEA is breaking down silos. With the collaborator field, departments can work together on shared objectives. Kendra emphasized:
“Now you can see Technology is working with Customer, and HR has a piece in that same objective. That’s the beauty of ClearPoint—it creates better alignment and centralized collaboration.”
They’ve also engaged a pilot group to test and refine usage, ensuring buy-in and continuous improvement.
Tasks, Trees, and Transparency
JEA tracks hundreds of tasks in ClearPoint—many driven by managers and department leads. These tasks link directly to initiatives and objectives, giving leadership a clear view of what’s moving and who’s accountable.
And for visual learners, scorecard trees remain a fan favorite. “Some people love tables, some love charts, some love trees,” said Ted. “ClearPoint supports all of them.”
Looking Ahead: AI & Integration
When asked what would make ClearPoint even better, Kendra didn’t hesitate:
“AI and deeper data integrations. That’s where the future is, and I’m excited to see how ClearPoint continues evolving.”
Ted shared that ClearPoint is already exploring AI for automated analysis, trend predictions, and even monthly report summaries—setting the stage for even more strategic intelligence.
Final Advice: Just Dive In
For teams just getting started, Kendra’s advice was simple:
“Jump in. Explore. You won’t break anything. Once you know how you want your strategy to be visualized, the ClearPoint team will help you make it happen.”
