Marketing Manager - Municipal Sector

ClearPoint Strategy is a rapidly growing software company whose vision is to be the “go-to” choice for management reporting software. We have a market-proven solution that supports many types of organizations, including utilities, banks, healthcare organizations, nonprofits, and municipalities.

Our local government practice is unique and has grown substantially. We are already recognized as a leader in this vertical, and we have strong brand recognition within key local markets. We are looking to build on these strengths and grow ClearPoint dramatically in the United States and Canada. Our vision is to be the de-facto choice for local government for strategy execution, performance management, and results reporting.

As a Community Manager with ClearPoint, you’ll be expected to know our software inside and out; to provide feedback to our product manager on how to improve ClearPoint for municipal clients; to network and build local working groups with our clients to meet their needs and attract more clients; to drive use of our product features among our municipal organizations; and to introduce ClearPoint to municipalities that are starting on their strategy execution journey.

We are looking for someone to meet the following criteria:

  • An incredibly hard worker, even when it’s not so fun. There is a ton of work to do, and we are a small organization with huge ambitions and limited support staff. We are looking for someone to help execute on all fronts without complaint or supervision, and come back asking for more. There is a real opportunity for someone who can build and execute on a vision; someone who can juggle with many balls in the air.
  • Excited about building community. This is not a sales job in the classic sense. We’re not going to be measuring you based the number of deals you close. This is about building community in the local government space – we want you to really get to know our clients (and prospects) in the local government space, help educate them about performance management and ClearPoint, network them together, and – eventually – to be seen as a real thought leader in local government.
  • Super talented, in a general way. We’re going to throw a ton of work at you of every possible sort, and you need that magic skill of being able to figure it out even if you have no idea where to start. On any given day you might bounce between organizing a meeting in Colorado, researching measures in our municipal library, building a newsletter for our cities, making introductions across our client base, and driving business development opportunities. It’s expected that you can balance helping our clients and helping our company at the same time. We are looking for someone with strong technical skills and a desire to support municipalities.
  • A cool person to be with. Not a crazy party animal, just someone we can trust, rely upon, hang out with, bounce ideas off of, and generally interact with in a positive way, both personally and professionally. In fact, this is one of the most stringent requirements we have. We typically do twice a year off-sites. Recently, these have been in Las Vegas, New Orleans, Annapolis, and Atlanta. Please feel free to recommend a good location for our next offsite.

What else are we looking for?

  • Someone with consulting or community management experience who had delivered measurable results for clients, or someone who has worked in an executive role in a private or public-sector company.
  • A big thinker who is passionate about details. Someone with a history of “getting things done” no matter what it takes. At ClearPoint, you need to “sweat the small stuff.” Big thinkers who expect a team to execute for them need not apply.
  • Someone who has managed projects and clients. Our clients love us, and our clients need to love you, too. Technical skills are just not enough. You need to genuinely enjoy making connections with people and sharing knowledge
  • Someone who is motivated by a challenge and can work independently as well as in a team. You will also need patience and perseverance – our municipal clients demand a lot, and they don’t always understand exactly what they are demanding. Your job is helping us figure that out.
  • You need great presentation skills. This is more than just standing in front of a room. It also includes structuring the presentation, using PowerPoint, and facilitating a discussion of 10 people or more.

To qualify for this position, you must have experience working at a top consulting firm (ideally, with municipal experience) or as an evangelist / community manager in a B2B software firm. You will have 2-5 years of relevant work experience, have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Communications or Business, live in the Washington, DC area (or be ready to move there on your own dime, no relocation), be able to go through an extensive interview process where we’ll ask hard questions, and be ready to be challenged. We expect you to come with an open mind as well as your own ideas to improve the way that we work. We hope that you will feel ownership over the future growth and success of this firm as we do.

Associate Consultant

This is a perfect entry-level position for a recent college graduate with great organizational skills looking for a job at a technology startup with proven technology, a growing customer base, and strong financial footing. At ClearPoint, helping customers is the best way to add value to our brand, and you would be our ambassador in this mission.

So, what would you do here?

We are a small company, which will allow you to participate meaningfully in the management and direction of the company, while also gaining great experience on large scale projects with a global impact. Small company. Huge responsibilities and opportunities. Expect to hit the ground running. We are getting slammed with new work, so you will need to learn on-the-job. Expect to contribute immediately because we need you to.

Our software focuses on organization wide performance management and management reporting. We help organizations track their measures and projects against their strategic goals. Organizations do this in a variety of ways including using Balanced Scorecards and dashboards. ClearPoint is extremely customizable, and clients reach out with questions about the software as well as about best practices in performance management.

Account Executive

This is a perfect position for someone who is looking for their next sales opportunity with a great startup here in the Washington, DC, area. We’ve got a solid product, great customers, strong finances, and we need YOU to help take our message to the world.

As an Account Executive, you will benefit from inbound leads as well as research within verticals to find prospective customers, create outreach strategies, and identify opportunities. You will run online demos of the ClearPoint software and successfully sell the ClearPoint value proposition.

Target clients will largely consist of — but will not be limited to – municipalities, state agencies, nonprofits, and mid to large sized businesses. This role is an inside sales position working in our Arlington, VA office and requires less than 10% travel.

So, what would you do here?

In this role, you will need to:

  • Become an expert in identifying challenges that our prospective customers face, which can be solved with effective management reporting processes
  • Close new business consistently at or above quota level
  • Serve as a brand enthusiast for ClearPoint’s products and solutions

Full-Stack Software Developer

This is a perfect position for someone who is enjoys working will all kinds of technologies: database servers, application servers, firewalls, CSS, JS, Angular, just to name a few. And someone who’s interested in a breakthrough opportunity with a great startup here in the Washington, DC area. We’ve got a solid product, great customers, strong finances, and we need YOU to take our technology platform to the next level.

We’re in the process of rebuilding our application to take advantage of all the stuff the cool kids are working with – REST APIs, AngularJS, C#, PHP, etc., etc., etc. We’re taking something that’s wicked cool and making it wicked awesome. We’re a small team, and we’re going to stay that way (at least for the immediate future, so we’re not looking to hire 10 average people — we’re looking for the one exceptional one).

So, what would you do here?

You may have heard of “big data.” That’s not us. But we’re solving a different problem, one that might not have a sexy moniker, but one that’s super important to organizations around the world. We’re solving “wide data.” We’re trying to help organizations stitch together data, analysis, and insight from their varied and disparate data sources.

Skills & Requirements

  • Awesome at Javascript, with good experience building big Angular apps
  • Great at Bootstrap with a strong understanding of CSS and its various gotchas.
  • Proficient in OOP environments using PHP, Java or C#
  • ColdFusion skills a huge plus
  • Knowledge of SQL stored procedures, functions, etc. (even if you’re not an expert)
  • Solid understanding of REST APIs and how they work (i.e., status codes)
  • Know what TDD is and why it’s important (and when it’s not)
  • Bonus points for you if you have worked in an Agile environment (or at least know what this is and want to).
